Statement Regarding Recent Social Media Posts and Organizational Changes

We are writing to address recent concerns regarding inappropriate posts made by Mr. Predrag Azdejković, the director of the Merlinka Festival, on the social media platform X.

First and foremost, we want to express our deepest apologies for any discomfort or confusion these posts may have caused. The Merlinka Festival has always stood for inclusivity, respect, and the celebration of diversity, and we remain steadfast in upholding these values.

We also wish to provide context for these unfortunate events. Mr. Azdejković has recently endured a significant personal tragedy, the loss of his beloved mother, which has deeply affected his emotional well-being. Coupled with the immense stress and pressures associated with his role, as well as signs of burnout, these circumstances have regrettably contributed to the lapse in judgment reflected in his social media activity.

As an organization, we recognize the seriousness of this matter and are committed to ensuring the continued integrity and professionalism of the Merlinka Festival. To that end, Mr. Azdejković has made the difficult but necessary decision to step away from all public-facing roles within the festival, effective immediately. This decision has been made to ensure that the upcoming festival in December proceeds smoothly and remains focused on its mission of amplifying LGBT+ voices through film and culture.

In stepping back, Mr. Azdejković will be taking time to focus on his mental health and well-being. We stand by him during this challenging period and hope that he finds the support and healing he needs.
