Karleen Pendleton Jiménez

Karleen is the author of the memoir How to Get a Girl Pregnant, the original content on which this short is based. Her short film Butch Coyolxauhqui looking at queer body image, fatphobia, and reclamation was created in 2016. She is the screenwriter for the award-winning animation short Tomboy. Recently she was Script Editor for Barb Taylor’s films Bobbi and Sheelagh and Queen Maeve. She has written four books: Are You a Boy or a Girl? (2000), How to Get a Girl Pregnant (2011). Tomboys and Other Gender Heroes: Confessions from the Classroom (2016) and the recent young adult The Street Belongs to Us. The first two were finalists for the Lambda Literary Award. Her short stories and personal essays have been published in numerous anthologies and magazines, including “Downtown” in Queers Were Here: Heroes and Icons of Queer Canada (2016).
