Mizandristkinje
Režija:
Bruce La Bruce
Uloge: Susanne Sachße, Viva Ruiz, Kembra Pfahler
Nemačka, Kanada, 2017.
91 min.

The Misandrists
Director:
Bruce La Bruce
Writer: Bruce La Bruce (screenplay)
Cast: Susanne Sachße, Viva Ruiz, Kembra Pfahler
Germany, Canada, 2017

The Misandrists refers to a secret cell of feminist terrorists that is planning to liberate women, overthrow the patriarchy, and usher in a new female world order. The group is led by Big Mother, who operates a school for wayward girls in the countryside as a front for a radical terroristic cell. When a young man, a radical leftist, who is running from the police, happens upon this remote female stronghold, one of the girls takes pity on him and hides him in the basement. His presence eventually disrupts the household and reveals a number of unexpected secrets, as the film moves towards its climax: the revelation of a new style of lesbian porn that is to be used as both propaganda  tool and calling card for their new brand of female revolution.

Bruce LaBruce is an internationally acclaimed filmmaker, photographer, writer, and artist based in Toronto. Along with a number of short films, he has written and directed nine feature films, including his most recent, Gerontophilia, which won the Grand Prix at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal in 2013, and Pierrot Lunaire, which won the Teddy Award Special Jury Prize at the Berlinale in 2014.

Touko Laaksonen, a decorated officer, returns home after a harrowing and heroic experience serving his country in World War II, but life in Finland during peacetime proves equally distressing. He finds peace-time Helsinki rampant with persecution of the homosexual men around him, even being pressured to marry women and have children. Touko finds refuge in his liberating art, specializing in homoerotic drawings of muscular men, free of inhibitions. His work – made famous by his signature ‘Tom of Finland’ – became the emblem of a generation of men and fanned the flames of a gay revolution.

One of Finland’s most highly acclaimed directors, Dome Karukoski has been named one of “Variety’s” top 10 Directors to Watch. His features include BEAUTY AND THE BASTARD, HOME OF THE DARK BUTTERFLIES, FORBIDDEN FRUIT, LAPLAND ODYSSEY, HEART OF A LION and THE GRUMP, the latter three of which had their premieres at Toronto IFF. His latest film Tom of Finland was selected as part of the 2017 edition of Tribeca FF and Helsinki IFF.

Nathan is a young man who joins an AIDS activist group in 1990s Paris. As he attends the weekly meetings, he learns that some members prefer a more radical approach to their protests.

Robin Campillo was born in Morocco in 1962. Because his father was in the army, he and his family moved around a great deal during his childhood and part of his adolescence. During this period, movies became a main theme of his existence. In Madagascar, at the age of 9, he discovered Godard’s Alphaville in a military theatre where the film was booed. Following this experience, he developed a passionate interest in cinema and an array of filmmakers ranging from Jacques Demy to Mario Bava. In 1983 he enrolled in the IDHEC (Institute for Advanced Cinema Studies) film school. After graduating, however, he took a break from his film career to dedicate his time to the fight against AIDS. Finally, in the mid-1990s, he began a long and fruitful collaboration with Laurent Cantet as co- screenwriter and editor. In 2004 Robin Campillo directed his first feature film THEY CAME BACK. His film BPM (BEATS PER MINUTE) was very well-received in competition at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, 2017.
