Director of Merlinka festival is nominated for the City of Belgrade Award

The director of the International queer film festival Merlinka and the editor of the gay magazine Optimist, Predrag Azdejkovic is nominated for the City of Belgrade Award in the category of long-standing work and a permanent contribution to the development of the city of Belgrade.

Azdejković was nominated for the long-time work organizing the International queer film festival “Merlinka”, which last year was organized in Belgrade Youth House for the tenth time, when more than a hundred films were screened and more than 2500 people visited the festival. Merlinka festival was established with the aim of empowering Belgrade’s LGBT population and promoting LGBT films that rarely are screened in Belgrade cinemas. Beside Belgrade, Merlinka festival is organized in Sarajevo, Novi Sad, Tuzla, Podgorica and Niš.

So far, Predrag Azdejkovic has been awarded the Crystal Award in 2010 for organizing the first Merlinka festival and Recognition for special contribution in improving the position of marginalized groups in 2013.

Receivers of The City of Belgrade Award will be known in April 2019.
